Do you love your brows? You should. Do you want to keep a fuller natural look without having to mess with it every morning? Well, have you considered microblading? Do you know what it is? Let me tell you about it!
Microblading: What is it?
Microblading is a form of tattooing. Unlike a regular tattoo, microblading is a form of tattoo artistry where pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld tool instead of a machine. Hair-like strokes are drawn with the tool to mimic natural hairs in your brows, creating the appearance of thicker, fuller brows.
How Does it Work?
Microblading is the process of making lots of tiny, superficial cuts in the brow line, which are then filled in with pigments to create darker, fuller brows. Microblading is also used to reshape the brow. It can fill in thinning arches or create the perfect tapering effect. Thanks to a specially designed hand tool, microblading can create hair-thin cuts that mimic the shape of real eyebrows. The added control offered by the instrument means a more refined, natural looking brow.
Does Microblading Hurt?
Because you are numbed prior to and during the procedure, the level of pain experienced can be minimized, but in all honesty, there is definitely some discomfort involved. The best way to describe the discomfort felt during a microblading procedure would be similar to that of a continuous cat scratch.
The skin near the front of your eyebrow is thicker, so this will likely be a lot less painful than the tail of your eyebrow. The tail of your eyebrow sits very close to the temple, where the skin is very thin. The thinner the skin, the more likely you will experience a higher level of discomfort. That being said, everyone's skin and pain threshold is different, but during the procedure, there shouldn't be a point where the pain becomes unbearable.
How Long Does Microblading Last?
It really depends on the client and the health of their skin, but microblading procedures should last anywhere from 1 to 3 years. Microblading is not supposed to last forever and will require touch-ups when the pigment begins to fade.
Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup and is subject to fading over time due to exfoliation, sun exposure and skincare products that may increase exfoliation of the skin. Microblading should last anywhere from 1 year to 3 years before requiring a touch-up.
(That’s more than 365 days where you won’t have to touch a brow pencil or brush!)
Do you have to shave off your eyebrows to get it done?
No! Microblading is done to enhance what you already have, to make the eyebrows look as natural as possible. Microblading is a great solution for people who have over-plucked their eyebrows, or who have naturally very thin/light eyebrows and want to accentuate the look of eyebrows on their face. It is not necessary, nor recommended for a client to get rid of any natural hair he or she may already have.
How long does it take to heal?
The eyebrow area will be slightly red after the procedure and color will appear very dark. This is normal for the procedure and part of the healing process. The color will fade by up to 40% as it heals. In the following days, the eyebrows will continue to be dark and you will notice slight scabbing. Do not pick at the scabs as this may damage the skin and the outcome of the microbladed area. The eyebrows will lighten up in color as it heals. It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over, and about 1 month for the color to fully set in. You'll notice the color is very light right after the two weeks after healing; the skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it. This is known as the milk skin and is common in tattooing. This is due to the tissue still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed. True color will reveal itself once healed.
Who Should Get Microblading?
Microblading is for those who want to redefine their eyebrows. Whether you have naturally thin brows, or your brow-ends are fading with age, microblading has the ability to add volume and color to your eyebrows. Microblading can also reshape your brows, adding more angle to your arch or more detail to your ends.
